About Sonia

Sonia is from New Zealand originally, and an Early Childhood Teacher by trade, though she has a background in policy work.

Her first introduction to missions work was in 2012 when she felt led to use the skills God gave her on the mission field. Africa had been on Sonia’s heart since childhood when she was impacted by news coverage of the famine in Ethiopia in the 80’s.

So, she did a five month mission trip to Flying Mission Botswana helping deliver a teacher training program to untrained teachers working with orphans and vulnerable children around Botswana. Sonia again returned to Botswana for nine months in 2014 where she had her own class of trainee teachers. Near the end of this time, she visited Zambia, and from there was invited back for 2015 to help in various areas of need at the mission.

Now Sonia is back in Zambia as Mrs Weaver, and Jonathan’s ‘Accompanying Spouse.’ While she doesn’t have a full time position within the mission she helps part-time in the finance department and with an outreach to local children on Sundays. Sonia is also blessed to be able to support Jonny from home, taking care of many things on that front, helping him to be as effective as he can in his working role.
